The project would be developed by private sector as an Independent Power Producer (IPP). As per details here on Saturday, the PPDB has set last date October 20, 2016 for submission of updated Statements of Qualification (SOQ).

The private sponsors would be pre-qualified based on the criteria set-forth in Pre-qualification Document (PQD). Only pre-qualified sponsors would be allowed to participate in bidding process through a Request for Proposal (RFP) approved by National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) under Competitive Bidding Tariff Regulations-2014.

The previously pre-qualified sponsors/applicants are also required to submit updated SOQ before the submission deadline. It is mentioned here that the location and access of Project Area Taunsa Hydropower Project is proposed to be built adjacent to existing Taunsa Barrage on Indus River, in district Muzaffargarh. It is about 30 km southeast of Taunsa town and is 120 km from Multan where there is an airport. There are road and railway leading to project area as well.

The nearest town is Kot Addu, 10 km southeast of the site. From project area, it is about 420 km distance to Lahore and 750 km to Karachi. The road from Multan to project is asphalt paved and is generally about 7m wide. Taunsa Hydropower Project is a run of the river, low head hydropower scheme envisaged to provide power to national grid.
