KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) of Preventive has not yet streamlined process to export gold to other countries, it is learnt.

Sources informed Customs Today that gold was exported through the Immediate Clearance Group (ICG) and Arrival and no application has been introduced through a public notice, office order or standing order in this regard.

The sources further disclosed that the collectorate officials at the AFU and JIAP were not following any doctrine in clearance/export of gold to other countries.

“The export of gold on fake Form-E is still continuing from airport and ICG,” the sources disclosed.

A few months ago, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) detected Rs 150 billion gold export on fake Form-E.

Later, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) directed the authorities concerned of Internal Audit-Customs to carry out the investigation into the scam.

A team of Internal Audit-Customs not only scrutinised the export data in gold smuggling, but also examined the import data.

During the investigation, the team found that the gold smuggling worth Rs 250 billion to 300 billion was reported on fake Form-E.

The team thoroughly checked the import and export data of gold and found that the customs officials at ICG and Arrival allowed the export of gold without following any legal procedure.

Subsequently, the Internal Audit-Customs sent a report to the FBR Headquarters regarding the gold smuggling on fake Form-E in which it stated that the exporters and customs officials were equally responsible in exporting huge quantity of gold without following the authorised procedure.
