Previous govt obtained loans amounting to $42.1b during 5 years: Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Asad Umar has said that previous government obtained foreign loans amounting to $42.1 billion during last five years,  July 01, 2013 to March 31, 2018 while repayments were recorded at around $ 20 billion during this period.

According to the details, net mobilization of foreign loans was $22.1 billion during the above stated period. Government mobilized $7 billion through the issuance of foreign currency bonds during July 01, 2013 to March 31, 2018 while repayments of foreign currency bonds were recorded at $ 1.25 billion during this period.

Therefore, net mobilization through the issuance of foreign currency bonds was $5.75 billion during the stated period.  External public debt was provisionally recorded at $ 69.3 billion at the end March 2018. Gross domestic debt was provisionally recorded at Rs16,074 billion at end of March 2018.

He said it has not yet finalized yet for obtaining loan from IMF. He has assured that government will discuss this issue in parliament and will act on parliament’s advice.
