ISLAMABAD: The customs officials of Torkham said that vegetable’s prices have gone high due to off-season at Afghanistan, Parachinar, Sawat and the restriction of import on vegetables from India. The vegetables’ prices also went up due to imposition of Regulatory Duty (RD) on the perishable goods.
Talking to Customs Today, sources of Torkham said hike in perishable goods’ prices is due to off-season at Afghanistan and local cities of the country where perishable food items are grown whereas the sources of customs station added that price-hike in vegetables and other perishable goods is due to imposition of RD on different imported items since last month through SRO.
The sources at SOST Pak-China border told Customs Today that no perishable goods like tomato or onion came from China only due to imposition of RD.
The price of tomato has reached Rs 130 per kilogram after an increase of Rs 30 whereas the per kilogram cost of green chilies gone up to Rs 120 per kilogram following a hike of Rs 80.
The per kilogram cost of capsicum reached Rs 100 after an increase of Rs 80 whereas the price of garlic and ginger went up to Rs. 340 and 200 per kilogram respectively.
