MULTAN: Corruption of scandalous In-charge R&D Dost Muhammad at bonded warehouse shows that he is running an influential smuggling network and their corruption hinders prosperity of our country.

These views were expressed by Central Chairman Anjuman-e-Tajiran Pakistan Khawaja Suleman Siddiqui in his interview to Customs Today on other day.

Siddiqui said, “It is shocking for whole business community that FBR and customs high-ups took no serious action against the corruption of Incharge R&D Dost Muhammad. He is given free hand by the State to do any sort of corruption because he is distributing share of his corruption to others in the department and nobody tries to take any action against him. Dost Muhammad is promoting organized crime, terrorism and other threats to human security in the country.”

Khawaja expressed disappointment that Dost was doing corruption and taking bribe openly but Federal Board of Revenue and other law enforcement agencies never took any action against him which boosted his courage to do more dishonesty in the Customs and he got encouraged to clear contraband items under garb of import shipments through TP and bonded warehouse.

He stated corruption of Dost Muhammad is distorting local markets and affecting business because it is impossible for honest man to run his business in that situation.

He said corruption hinders efforts to achieve internationally set goals of economy by undermining democracy and rule of law. Illegal clearance of contraband items with connivance of corrupt officials like Principal Appraiser Dost Muhammad is a serious issue for national integrity and threat for all as we are combating terrorism in the country.

He said Pakistan is already tackling huge challenges of measuring and countering enormous revenue leakages through smuggling and corrupt officials are responsible for damaging national economy.

He further said small & medium business man and common man pay the price of corruption of such black sheep. Pakistan is already going to dark economic phase and corrupt officials like Dost Muhammad are responsible for this mess.

He said irregularities of Dost Muhammad raise the concern of business community as their investment is not safe because corrupt officials are discouraging them through smuggling.

Siddiqui said Dost should be terminated from his job after completion of investigations and he should be given strict punishment to curb corruption from the department.
