Production of buses ,trucks increases by 63% in 2 months

ISLAMABAD: The production of buses and trucks expanded by 62.82 percent and 59.95 percent amid the initial two months of the current fiscal year (2016-17) contrasted with the relating time of a year ago.

As many as 256 buses were manufactured during July-August (2016-17) compared to the production of July-August (2015-16), according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The truck production during the period was recorded at 1,198 units compared to the output of 749 units last year.

On year-on-year basis, the production of buses and trucks during August 2016 increased by 47.87 percent and 61.08 percent respectively compared to the same month of last year. As many as 139 buses and 686 trucks were manufacture during August 2016 compared to the production of 94 and 426 units respectively in August 2015.

Meanwhile the production of tractors during the first two months of the fiscal year 2016-17 decreased by 9.68 percent by going down from 5,295 units last year to 4,784 units this year.

The production of jeeps and cars witnessed negative growth of 2.14 percent during the period under review compared to the corresponding period of last year. As many as 29,365 jeeps and cars were manufactured during the period compared to the production of 30,008 units last year.

The production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) also witnessed decline of 30.71 percent by going down from the output of 6,910 units during last year to 4,788 units during the current year.

It is pertinent to mention that the country’s large scale manufacturing (LSM) witnessed growth of 1.97 percent during July- August (2015-16) compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The Quantum Index Numbers (QIM) of large scale manufacturing industries was recorded at 122.18 points against 119.82 points during same period of last year.

The highest growth of 1.24 percent was witnessed in the indices monitored by Provincial Bureaus of Statistics (PBOS) followed by 1.10 growth in the indices of Ministry of Industries and 0.37 negative growth of Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC) indices.

On year on year basis, the industrial growth increased by 1.49 percent during August 2016 as compared to same month of last year while on month on month basis, the industrial growth decreased by 6.03 percent during March 2016 when compared to growth of February 2016, the data revealed.
