Promotion of tax culture crucial for economic progress: Dar

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Finance, Ishaq Dar has said without promoting tax culture in Pakistan, economic progress could not be achieved, besides lauded the the contribution of filers to the national exchequer.

While speaking during meeting with Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman and other senior officials who called on him here on Tuesday, he said that it also has a firm resolve to bring non-filers in the tax net through a sustained policy of encouragement, persuasion as well as administrative measures.

Dar also said that without promoting tax culture in Pakistan, adding that the objective of overall economic progress could not be achieved. The minister exchanged views with the officials on administrative and financial matters of the FBR. There was also discussion on measures for broadening the tax net.

The minister said broadening the tax net was an objective which the government wanted the FBR to pursue with sincerity of purpose and full dedication. The FBR chairman assured the minister of full cooperation and dedication of his team to expand the tax net. He briefed the minister about the key features of the proposed plan of action for broadening the tax base. He said that the FBR in the current fiscal year would take further steps aimed at facilitating the tax payers.
