LAHORE: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Consultant Tariq Yousaf heard a case filed by Proprietor Abdul Jabbar and Company against the Regional Tax Office (RTO-II) Lahore and postponed it until the next date of hearing.

The counsel for the appellant argued that the RTO failed to release the Sales Tax refunds to the appellant since two years.

He said the RTO-II has been collecting excessive taxes from the company for the last two years. The petitioner approached the officials concerned several times for the release of refunds, but the RTO officials failed to clear them after the lapse of a reasonable time.

Finally, the appellant decided to approach the FTO seeking intervention in this case. The counsel appealed the FTO Consultant to direct the RTO-II to clear the refund claims.

The counsel further said that delay in release of refunds puts the burden on the taxpayers, so the RTO-II should audit the cases and release the extra amount collected by it from the taxpayers.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, Consultant Tariq Yousaf adjourned the case of Proprietor Abdul Jabbar and Company till next date of hearing and directed the parties to appear before the court to present their arguments in the case.
