TOKYO: The exec told Gamasutra that the PS4 version of free-to-play MMO DC Universe Online “has been monetising amazingly well” and is making between 3-3.5 times as much as the PC game. PS3 is monetising at twice the rate of PC.

“Seeing that kind of difference in pay rate between the PC and the PS4 is really astounding,” he added. “It shows there’s a real market there.”

“It certainly benefitted [DCUO] to be early. But the market is growing so fast, and there are so many new players every day, that it’s definitely still early days. It’s like the early days of social games it’s that good.”

Elsewhere in the interview Smedley was also very complimentary about Steam’s Early Access service, saying that he intends to sue it for the launch of upcoming title H1Z1.

“I think it’s actually a great path for developers to take,” he added. “Steam is a great platform to do that because the user base they’ve built around Early Access has really metastasized and become an entrenched part of how Steam is perceived.

“That’s now where Early Access games come from and I kind of like that. It’s nice to have a community like that, and I hope we’ll see something like that on PS4 soon.”
