“These two industries that are involved in melting and ship breaking show that they are rivals to the general public,” they added.

Speaking on the occasion, the PSRMA members urged the government to stop import of quality raw material at an affordable price, as the said practice is discouraging the local manufacturers.

They further said that other raw materials that can be used in re-rolling industry, which are imported billets and re-rollable scrap, but they after making cartel are making arrangements with the FBR.

They further alleged that the ship breakers in a recent move to blackmail the government have stopped all deliveries to re-rolling mills so that they can blackmail and harass re rollers who have no option left but to buy from them only on their own terms and conditions and prices. They said that their mills are on the verge of closure due to non-supply of ship plates from ship breakers and melting industry.

The PSRMA members further urged the authorities concerned of the FPCCI, FBR, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Industries to take notice of these malpractices being done by steel-melting and ship-breaking industries, so that easy supply of the melted steel should be got by the PSRMA.
