PSX drops 217pts over profit-taking

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange Thursday witnessed bearish note all the day over profit-taking as benchmark 100-index dropped 217.47 points to reach 36048.76 points level at closing.

The stocks recorded the highest trading level of 36450.85points and lowest level of 36011.96 points, with the volume of 304 million shares, having about Rs 10.37 billion value. As many as 360 companies were active; of which 180 advanced, 158 declined and 22 remained unchanged.

Chemical was the top traded sector with 46,514,420 volume, while miscellaneous remained second with 39,219,200 volume.

The three top traded companies were Pace (Pak) Ltd with a volume of 36,890,000 and price per share of 7 (0.69), TRG Pak Ltd with a volume 21,155,000 of price per share of 37.59 (0.58), Lotte Chemical with a volume 15,222,500 of price per share of 6.28 (0.26).

The top three gainers were Wyeth Pak Ltd with price per share 2040 (90), Sanofi-AventisXD with price per share of 579.90 (27.56) and Pak.Int.ContXD price per share of 334 (12.46).

The top three losers were Nestle Pak XD with price per share of 7000 (-159), Pak TobaccoXD with price per share of 1181.70 (-62.19) and Siemens Pak per share of 1010 (-24.49).

Earlier, the Pakistan Stock Exchange opened negative with 21.94 points loss as benchmark 100-index dropped to 36244.29 points level in early trading. The bearish note continued till midday as benchmark 100-inded dropped 119.86 points to reach 36146.37 points level.

On Wednesday, the stock market benchmark KSE 100-share Index closed flat with a gain of 1.11 points to close at 36,266.23 points. The highest index of the day remained at 36,412.84 points while the lowest level of the day was recorded at 36,230.25 points.

However, turnover increased by 19 million shares to 300.98 million shares, trading value improved to Rs12.11 billion against Rs11.89 billion while market capital remained flat at Rs7.43 trillion. Of a total of 365 companies’ active in the session, 169 recorded in green, 163 in red while 33 remained unchanged.
