Punjab allocates Rs 2b for health under Millennium Development Goals: Mujtaba

LAHORE: Minister Excise and Taxation Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that the Punjab government has allocated Rs 2 billion for health sector under Millennium Development Goals.

He was addressing the party workers at his residence on the eve of World AIDS day on Monday. He said AIDs is a dangerous infectious disease which is affecting the world and Pakistan too. This disease is a danger for the country and awareness is only way to protect our nation from this fatal disease. He said government is taking serious steps to eliminate such diseases from our society and Government of the Punjab is working actively in this regard. Seminars and walks will be arranged in the province for awareness about such fatal diseases and Government will supports the non government organizations for advocacy campaigns of health in the province.

He said Punjab government has fixed a big budget of Rs122 billion for health in Punjab and special health insurance cards are being issued to the poor people of the province. Provincial Government has allocated Rs4 billion for this insurance card project. He added that insurance cards would be issued to the poor people in this regard.

The minister said the government wanted to provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to the card-holder patients. He said that Rs 600 million has been reserved to provide dialysis facilities to the poor kidney patients. The government has allocated 8.75 billion rupees to provide health facilities to the people having lower income.
