Punjab budget to reflect govt attention on energy shortage’

LAHORE: The provincial budget for next fiscal year will be reflective of the government’s strong commitment towards resolving the issue of energy shortage.

Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan, Punjab Minister for Mines and Minerals, said this on inauguration ceremony of 4th International EGO Pakistan – Energy, Gas, Oil and Power Exhibition incorporating Solar Pakistan 2015, at Expo Centre here on Friday.

The three-day event will conclude on Sunday. Safety and Security Pakistan 2015 Exhibition is also part of the event.

Over 100 companies from 14 countries, including China, Egypt, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the UAE and the USA etc have participated in the event.

The minister said the government was working to explore all possible resources, including renewable sources of energy as solar, wind, coal along with thermal and hydel opportunities.

“Commissioning of 100MW Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park at Bahawalpur which will ultimately be generating 1,000MW for the national grid is a proof of sincerity of the government to resolve energy crisis”, he said.

The delegates participating in the (EGO) exhibition from different countries expressed that there was a great scope of foreign investment in the country and they did not see any kind of threats of law and order situation.

Talking to the media, Ch Sher Ali said, “EGO Pakistan 2015 is an international platform for the energy industry. At this critical stage events like these in Pakistan, are a requirement for the well being of the country and the residents of Pakistan.
