LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s team has approved construction of 1,180 megawatt gas-powered electricity in Sheikhupura’s area of Bhikki.
Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Project Chief Executive Officer Ahad Cheema gave a detailed briefing to the cabinet on Bhikki project, while provincial ministers, Advisors, Special Assistants, Chief Secretary, concerned secretaries and senior officials attended the meeting.
The chief minister said that federal government is setting up two gas power plants of 1200 mw each in Haveli Bahadar Shah Jhang and Baloki in Punjab whereas provincial government is establishing the said gas power plant.
He said that Bhikki power plant is the first and biggest single gas based project in the country for which the Punjab government has taken a lead.
Shahbaz Sharif said that production of 363 megawatt electricity will start from single cycle turbine from March 2017 whereas with the operation of second single turbine in April 2017, another 363MW electricity will be produced.
Similarly, he said, a total of 1180mw electricity will be available through combined stream gas turbine in December 2017.
