Punjab Excise achieves 55pc target: DG Akram Ashraf

LAHORE: Punjab Excise and Taxation Director General Akram Ashraf Gondal said on Tuesday that the department had achieved 55 percent recovery target during first six months (July-December) of the financial year 2015-16, while solid steps were taken to make the tax system convenient for taxpayers.

During his visit to Sargodha Excise and Taxation, he said that computerization system was being upgraded so that citizens could avail their property details  online.

He disclosed the tax recovery from cotton growing areas remained less due to unfavorable weather conditions, while the matter of luxury tax was in the court.

Excise Director Rana Intikhab while briefing the DG about the performance said the department had recovered almost Rs 386.6 million during the six months under various heads, including Rs 157.8 million in shape of property tax, Rs 192.3 million vehicles tax, Rs 6.8 million excise duty, Rs 15.8 professional tax and Rs 10.6 million in the shape of cotton fee.
