LAHORE: Punjab Excise and Taxation Department is upgrading its token tax system, through which the car owners would be able to submit their token taxes online from anywhere in Punjab.
The system has been designed to prevent losses and fake tax submissions via Post offices. Previously fake slips of post offices were submitted and the system lacked any verification methods. Thus token taxes were fraudulently filed by showing previous fake token slips.
The Excise Department due to lack of verification processes was facing huge losses. The new system entails that token tax filers will be provided with pro forma and legal affidavit which would then be verified by excise officials in correspondence with post offices.
During the tenure of former Excise director general Naseem Sadiq, a similar system of computerisation was initiated but for unknown reasons, the system was back-rolled and the data was removed.
