Punjab Excise to starts SMS alert service for token tax defaulters

LAHORE: The Excise and Taxation Department Punjab is going to start mobile SMS service to warn token tax defaulters. Excise has finalized the process of SMS alert system for defaulters. Department will inform the defaulters via messages from 8785. A message will be send to the vehicle owner about his token tax status and amount of default. It will help the department to aware the citizens about taxe process as it is not easy for a common people to understand.

Additional Director Excise Masood ul Haq told Customs Today that Excise has received record from National Database Authority. Soon department will start new SMS service. Previous SMS service of 9966 badly failed due to non coordination between the departments.

Punjab Information Technology Board will technically support the Excise in this regard. Excise has received mobile number of millions of people to warn them about token tax.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday during briefing about reforms in Excise and Taxation has directed the officials to use information technology to enhance the performance of the department. This 8785 SMS service is another step in this regard as Excise is already working on computerization of property tax system.
