Punjab govt implementing robust programme to promote horticulture: CM

LAHORE: The Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the promotion of horticulture in the province and development projects are being beautified through horticulture.

Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said this while addressing a meeting through video link here at Civil Secretariat to review matters regarding beautification of cities through horticulture and developing recreational places and new grounds for promotion of sports activities among youth.

The meeting also decided to establish horticulture and landscape training institute, while approval was given for tree plantation along 40-kilometer railway track from Shahdara to Raiwind.

The chief minister directed that measures should also be taken for promotion of recreational activities along this track. He also directed that a steering committee should be formed to propose immediate measures for establishing the horticulture and landscape training institute.

Shahbaz Sharif said that in addition to controlling pollution, plants and flowers enhanced beauty of cities, therefore, proper care of flowers and plants was also necessary and public awareness should be created in this regard. “The project of setting up digital libraries in parks should immediately be implemented,” he added.

The chief minister directed that immediate measures should be taken for implementation of orchard project as it would provide new creational facilities to the citizens.

He further directed that a horticulture plan should be evolved for Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project, adding that playgrounds and recreational spots would be made in every area for promoting recreational activities among the youth. He directed that institutions concerned should complete the process of identification of land for new recreational spots as early as possible.

Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan, Lahore Division commissioner, Punjab Horticulture Authority Vice Chairman Iftikhar Ahmed, Walled City Authority director general, Secretary Housing, LDA director general, NESPAK managing director, DCO Lahore and PHA director general besides other concerned officials participated in the meeting.
