Punjab govt sets 19.5m metric tons wheat target

FAISALABAD: The Punjab government has set a target to produce 19.5 million metric tons wheat this year.

This was stated by Dr. Makhdoom Hussain Director Wheat Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI) Faisalabad while addressing a meeting of wheat growers here on Tuesday.

Dr. Makhdoom said that the growers should complete cultivation of wheat in-time and for this purpose they should used certified seed to get bumper crops. He told that Sehar 2006, Lasani 2008, Faisalabad 2008, Aas 2011, Millat 2011, Punjab 2011, NARC 2011 and Galaxy 2013 are approved wheat varieties which can be cultivated by November 20.

He told that 15-20 kilogram reduction per acre in wheat production was witnessed on daily basis when the wheat crop is cultivated after November 20. Therefore, the growers immediately complete cultivation of wheat in all the fields empty after harvesting of rice, cotton and sugarcane crops, he advised.
