Punjab govt spending Rs 109m on fish seed nursing farms

LAHORE: The Punjab government is spending Rs 109.530 million on the rehabilitation and improvement of existing six fish seed nursing farms in the province.

This was revealed by Fisheries Director General Dr Muhammad Ayub, while presiding over a special meeting held in connection with rehabilitation of fish seed farms and increasing fish production on Thursday.

Fisheries Extension Director Dr Iftikhar Qureshi, Fisheries Research & Training Director Dr Imtiaz, Planning & Evaluation Deputy Director Ansar Mehmood Chatha and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

Ayub said that after completion of this project, Rs 2.2 million more fish seed will be produced. He said that the fish seed nursing farms situated at Pirowal in Khanewal, Shahpur in Sargodha, Fateh Jang in Attock, Kotli Araian in Sialkot, Pir Mehal in Toba Tek Singh and Hasilpur in Bahawalpur were being rehabilitated on modern lines.

He said that under this project new water ponds will be constructed at the land available in these nursery farms for enhancing fish seed production. The DG Fisheries said that solar water pumps will be installed for meeting the water requirements whereas rusted water supply pipelines will also be replaced for conservation of water resources.
