Punjab govt spending Rs 80b on water projects

FAISALABAD: The Punjab government is spending over Rs80 billion for the provision of drinking water in 35 tehsils of 14 districts of the province.

Punjab Saaf Pani Company Managing Director Waseem Ajmal was giving briefing to some members of the parliament about the administrative structure, working and scope of Punjab Saaf Pani Company.

Mian Muhammad Farooq, Rajab Ali Baloch, Rai Haider Ali Kharal, Afzal Sahi, Arif Mehmood Gill, Haji Khalid Saeed, Jaffar Ali Hocha, Rai Usman Kharal and other members of parliament, MD WASA Syed Zahid Aziz, Additional Commissioner Coordination Khadim Hussain Jilani, officers of Public Health Engineering Department and Punjab Saaf Pani Company also attended the meeting.

Managing Director Saaf Pani Company told the meeting that after conducting the comprehensive survey of the districts and the project would complete in 8 packages. Sadar, Jaranwala, Tandlianwala, Chak Jhumra and Samundri tehsils are in the 1st package and Saaf Pani project would complete in these tehsils by the end of 2017 with the cost of Rs1.8 billion.

He said no effort would be spared in speedy completion of this important project and there should an effective mechanism of monitoring for the project.

The members said that Punjab govt was giving full attention on provision of basic amenities to the public on their doorsteps and the Saaf Pani programme was excellent vision of CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif for the rural population. They said that comprehensive strategy should be evolved for launching water supply projects in true spirit.
