LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has withdrawn the tax on mobile Internet services.
The approval was granted during a high-level meeting, which was attended by the officers of the Finance and Revenue departments and the Punjab Information Technology Board.
The tax amounting to Rs 19.5 percent was imposed in the current fiscal budget. The PITB office-bearers had appealed to abolish the tax for the promotion of the technology.
The Finance and Revenue departments had opposed the tax, saying that the province would suffer a loss of rupees five billion.
