LAHORE: No serious step has been taken to establish anti-narcotics police stations in Punjab even the chief minister approved the summery in this regard one year ago.
Sources told Customs Today that the Excise Punjab has also purchased a number of items for official use of these stations but formation of special police stations is still awaited..
The government’s plan of establishing excise and narcotics police stations at the Divisional Headquarters in Punjab is in doldrums from the last several years.
According to the senior officials, three years ago, the Punjab government had announced to establish excise and narcotics police stations in Punjab’s divisional headquarters besides setting the special check posts at all the entry and exit points of the said divisional headquarters to curb the menace of narcotics across the province.
It was also decided in a high level meeting in 2013 that these police stations will be established in Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi.
The excise and taxation department had also send a detailed feasibility reports to the government for this purpose and Chief Minister Punjab has approved the summery in 2014.
