Punjab Rangers kill smuggler carrying Indian alcohol at Wagha sector

LAHORE: Punjab Rangers have killed one smuggler and arrested the other while one managed to escape on Wednesday night at Wagha sector. Upon the information of intelligence sources, at 8 pm a search party observed three smugglers trying to cross over from India. Rangers asked them to stop but they opened firing. In retaliated fire, one smuggler was killed, one apprehended while one managed to escape. Contraband items were recovered at the site. Detailed investigation is underway.

According to Punjab Rangers representative three persons were trying to smuggle Indian alcohol to Pakistan through Wagha sector while they were caught by the Rangers. During retaliation Punjab Rangers killed one of them and arrested another while one of their colleague managed to escape in darkness during firing between the groups.

It was a consecutive second incident on Wagha sector when smugglers were killed by Rangers. On Monday night Punjab Rangers killed two smugglers Kashif and Sarfaraz during retaliation. During 2014 Punjab Rangers have killed number of smugglers and arrested almost hundred criminals involved in smuggling between India and Pakistan, and number of smuggling attempts were intercepted by Rangers at Wagha sector.

Smuggling of Indian made alcohol is common on the border of two countries as alcohol is not easily available in Pakistan.
