Punjab Revenue Authority registers NTS for sales tax under Finance Bill 2014

LAHORE: Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has forcibly registered National Testing Service in sales tax as it was not ready to voluntarily get registration even after earning millions.

It is essential to pass the test conducted by the NTS for recruitment in government departments and for admission in any University. The FBR Sources told Customs Today that NTS is not paying any sales tax to PRA. Revenue Authority had sent many notices to the services firm but they were avoiding registration.

The service providing company is earning millions in form of fee but pay nothing. According to PRA official sales tax was imposed on NTS from 1st July 2014 but even after sending many notices they did not pay any tax.

After many reminder notices PRA has decided to forcefully register the company for sales tax. NTS has collected millions of rupees through providing services in schools, colleges and Universities but did not pay Tax. NTS is also providing services to many Government Departments like, Punjab Police, Federal Investigation Authority, Lahore Development Authority and Lahore High Court for recruitment and earned huge amount against these services from the departments and applicants.

After registration of NTS, Punjab Revenue Authority started receiving 16 percent of sales tax forcefully. PRA has authority to receive 16 percent sales tax on services under the finance bill 2014 which was passed by Punjab Assembly in June 2014.
