Purchase of expensive locomotives: NAB starts probe against Saad Rafique

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started a new investigation against former railway minister Khawaja Saad Rafique for purchasing engines of train at the exorbitant price.

Sources said that the train engines which were bought by India at the cost of Rs250 million, Saad Rafique purchased the same at the price of Rs400 million.

Further, the anti-graft watchdog has also been investigating Khawaja Salman Rafique for his alleged involvement in the health department for buying medicines and machinery at extortionate rates.

The NAB arrested Khawaja Saad Rafique and Khawaja Salman Rafique on December 11 after the Lahore High Court rejected their bail plea in the case pertaining to Paragon City housing society scam.

NAB had launched an investigation into the alleged scam in November after a number of victims staged protests and held a press conference at the Lahore Press Club against what they termed housing society’s fraud.

Last month, in a major development, Qaiser Amin Butt, a director of the Paragon City (Pvt) Limited, became an approver against PML-N stalwart Khawaja Saad Rafique in the Paragon City scandal.
