MOSCOW: Imports of suspension polyvinyl chloride (SPVC) in Russia reached about 4,800 tonnes in the first three months of the year, up 33% year on year, according to MRC DataScope report. March SPVC imports into the country decreased to 1,600 tonnes, compared with 1,900 tonnes in February. In general, total SPVC imports into the country reached 4,800 tonnes in January – March compared with 3,600 tonnes year on year. The key external suppliers of PVC over this period traditionally were Chinese producers.

Chinese producers significantly decreased export prices over the last two months, while rouble has strengthened against the dollar rate. This factors can lead the further increase in PVC imports in the nearest months. It is also worth noting that because of the low demand in the domestic market Russian producers increased PVC exports. March Russia’s PVC exports (excluding supplies to Belarus, and Kazakhstan) decreased to 5,700 tonnes against 6,000 tonnes a month earlier. Nevertheless, during the period under review, about 24,500 tonnes of SPVC, up 4% year on year.
