MOSCOW: Imports of suspension polyvinyl chloride (SPVC) in Russia exceeded 3,100 tonnes in the first two months of the year, up 33% year on year, while PVC exports from the country decreased, according to MRC’s DataScope report. February imports of SPVC into the country, despite low season and sufficient supply from the local producers, increased to 1,900 tonnes compared with 1,200 tonnes a month earlier. Thus, January-February SPVC imports into the country totalled about 3,100 tonnes compared with 2,400 tonnes in the same period of last year. The peak of imports in 2016 was in July-September.
The key external suppliers of PVC over this period traditionally were Chinese producers. February imports of Chinese acetylene PVC grew to 1,800 tonnes, compared with 900 tonnes in January. It is also worth noting that despite low demand from the domestic market, Russian producers decreased PVC exports. February Russia’s PVC exports (excluding supplies to Belarus, and Kazakhstan) decreased to 6,000 tonnes against 11,200 tonnes a month earlier. In general, in January-February SPVC exports were about 17,300 tonnes, down 5% year on year.
