KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has approved a Rs12.6 billion rehabilitation project, under which the flood capacity of Sukkur barrage will be enhanced by 150,000 cusecs and the entire system of barrage will be converged in one control room.
The chief minister approved the project while presiding over a high-level meeting which was attended by finance and irrigation minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, additional chief secretary development Aijaz Ali Khan and secretary irrigation Zaheer Hyder Shah. Moreover, water experts, Idrees Rajput, Bashir Dahar and Ali Gohar Shah, and a British consultant Ian Heijne and his team were also present on the occasion.
Briefing the meeting, British consultant Ian Heijne said rehabilitation of the barrage its flood capacity will increase from 1.15 million cusecs to 1.3 million cusecs and improve its overall operation and management.
