A customs official stationed at Hamad International Airport (HIA) found a suspected packet placed in the bag of the passenger during screening on an x-ray machine.

When the bag was opened, a packet containing 660 grams of marijuana was found, Al Sharq reported.

Drug traffickers take transit flights to dodge customs officials in a bid to smuggle narcotics into the country but the Customs Authority has a foolproof system to thwart their attempts.

The officials screen and inspect every single bag of passengers. Advanced screening machines have been installed at all border check posts, seaports and airport to spot the suspected materials inside the bags.

Customs inspectors are also being trained to sense the suspected passengers in a bid to thwart any attempt of drugs trafficking.
