Doctors check quality of fresh items imported from India at Wagha Boarder

LAHORE: All consignments of fresh and edible items imported via Wagha from India were examined properly to check the quality.

Sources who run clearance process of consignments informed Customs Today that fresh items like potatoes, garlic, ginger, potatoes etc were imported into Pakistan via Wagha border that is only land route for trade between India and Pakistan. They said doctors were available to check the quality of the items to maintain the standard of edible items. They said that hazardous food was not issued clearance certificate.

They said, “We cannot do compromise over the quality of edible items as these are used by every native of our country including our families.” They highlighted that work force should be increased to check the quality. They added that latest technology should be provided to examine the consignments at all ports.

On the other hand, the FBR has issued notification to all customs collectorate in which the clearance certificate of Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority has been made mandatory for the import of any edible and other items. Initially, almost 78 items have been declared that will not be imported without the clearance of PSQCA.
