QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs has successfully seized 722 non-duty paid mobiles worth of Rs5 million from a Dubai-bound passenger during checking at Quetta International Airport.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Ashraf Ali received credible information that attempts would be made to smuggle foreign-origin mobile phones by the passengers coming from Dubai. On arrival of flight No. FZ. 341 from Dubai, thorough checking of passengers and scanning of their luggage was conducted. During the course, luggage of a passenger namely Ameerzada, son of Shahzada Khan, was intercepted.
The sources said that the bags apprehended from his possession resulted in the recovery of foreign-origin mobile phones. He was asked to produce any lawful evidence of the recovered mobiles’ legal import but he failed to do so.
The accused has also been arrested for committing the offense. The total number of said mobiles are 722 and their price in international market is Rs5 million. AFU Deputy Collector Muhammad Ibrahim, Superintendent Abdul Razzaq and Inspector Nasrulllah Khattak along with a team participated in the said operation. Further investigation is underway till the filing of this report.
