Quetta Customs foils attempt to smuggle cigarettes, betel nuts

QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle large amounts of cigarettes and betel nuts in the country.

According to details, Customs Quetta has intensified its operations against smugglers since Collector Irfan Javed took charge. A search operation by the customs team foiled an attempt to smuggle 6,600 kilograms of chalia and 500 kilograms of chromite by hiding it in secret compartments in a transport truck.

A truck carrying a large quantity of foreign cigarettes was also seized at Lak Pass and the contraband was confiscated. The value of the goods and vehicles seized during these two operations is estimated at Rs 20 million.

Additional Collector Preventive Yasir Kaloor, Deputy Collector Akbar Jan, Superintendents Khurshid Hasni, Aslam Khan and Inspectors Asfandyar Khan and Ahmad Nawaz Zehri participated in the operation. On this occasion, Chief Collector Saifuddin Junejo and Collector Irfan Javed appreciated the team’s performance.
