Quetta customs foils bid to smuggle betel nuts, cumin seeds

QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs Preventive team seized 500 kilograms of Chromite stone (interior quality) and betel nuts worth Rs16 million.

Sources told that in pursuance of an authentic information, on 22.07.2020 at about 00:45 hours a Hino truck (10-wheeler) bearing registration no: TKX-227 (Quetta) was stopped at Customs check post Baleli, for thorough checking.

On checking, 6,600 kilograms betel nuts and 500 kilograms of Chromite stone (inferior quality) were recovered. The betel nuts were covered with the layer of Chromite stone. The market value of the seized goods including truck is Rs.16 million. The betel nuts were destined for smuggling to other parts of country.

Sources told that during another operatio, in pursuance of an authentic information, on 19.07.2020 at about 22:00 hours a Hino trailer bearing registration no. TLH-355 (Quetta) was stopped at Customs check post Surab, for thorough checking.

On checking, 25,000 kgs Momtaz cumin seeds were recovered. The import of cumin seeds is not allowed from India. The market value of the seized goods including truck is Rs31.50 million. The cumin seeds were destined for smuggling to other parts of country.

Sources told that Customs team after registering a case started investigations.

It is necessary to mention here that after assuming the charge as Collector Preventive Irfan Javed directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling.
