Quetta Customs foils bid to smuggle charas worth Rs500m near Baleli check post

QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs team foiled a bid to smuggle 2.0 tons of hashish (charas) from a trailer coming from border area at Baleli Check post. The estimated value of the charas is Rs500m in international market. Addressing a press conference, Collector Preventive Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad said that information was received that huge quantity of narcotics will be smuggled via Chaman-Quetta routes. He immediately passed necessary instruction to Additional Collector Jameel Baloch Additional Yasir Kulwar and Deputy Collector Chudhry Imran Afzal Lila, Assistant Collector Saleem Tahir to foil the attempt. The staff of customs check post Baleli under the supervision of Superintendent Saleem Agha, check post incharge Jameel Kakar , Tufail Ahmed and Asghar kakar were kept alert to maintain strict vigilance over vehicular traffic. The staff of customs deputed at Baleli Interchange check posts intercepted a suspected trailer. During search 2000kg of baked charras (hashish) was recovered, which was tactfully hidden in specially designed cavities in the body of the said vehicle. As the staff was busy in checking of said vehicle the driver escaped from the scene taking the advantage of darkness as usual. It is necessary to mention here that it is one of the biggest narcotics cases in the history of Customs Quetta, Balochistan. Therefore the staff of Baleli customs took the possession of the said narcotics and vehicle. FIR is being lodged against the unknown persons. Further investigation in the matter is under way.
