QUETTA: Customs Collectorate is organizing a two-day workshop on E-TIR for training of FC, FIA immigration, Customs staff, traders, transport operators and other relevant government departments.
Additional Collector Zubair Shah, while talking with Customs Today, said that Pakistan has already been notified as Electronic Transports Internationaux Routiers (E-TIR) operational country. He said that in this regard training of customs staff and other stakeholders was necessary, so the Collectorate is starting a two-day training workshop.
He added that sessions are planned for 50 to 60 participants including relevant Customs officers BS 16 and above for the training. Moreover, it is also requested by FBR to MCC Quetta to invite representatives of Frontier Constabulary (FC) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to participate in the training workshop.
Collector Ashraf inaugurated the workshop while overview by TBA will be demonstrate of Mott MacDonald’s Trade Facilitation and Transport sector modernization initiative as well as overview of TIR convention and its implementation in Pakistan will also be presented.
The Additional Collector said that TIR has been started at Customs Collectorate but no consignment have been reached here from any TIR countries like Iran or Afghanistan.
He added: “We don’t have any TIR agreement with India, the TIR system is an important tool for international transit and transport facilitation, the e-TIR system will further enhance transit and transport facilitation while further securing government revenues.”
He said that according to Iranian news agency IRNA , Iran will send its first export cargo to Pakistan through Mirjaveh Customs Terminal.
It added that E-TIR system allows the two countries to have access to all related information at any time, and view the information of the cargo before delivery which is useful for both sides and decreases the risk of deception, accelerates customs formalities and reduces the costs.
The TIR system not only covers customs transit by road but also a combination is possible with other modes of transport (rail, inland waterway, and even maritime transport), as long as at least one part of the total transport is made by road, the IRNA reported.
