Quetta Customs impounds vehicles, electronics worth Rs 11m

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate, Quetta, has confiscated smuggled electronics and three non-duty paid luxury vehicles worth Rs 11 million, besides arresting four suspects during two raids.

As per details, Quetta Customs Deputy Collector Jahanzaib Abbasi received information regarding smuggled electronic items on which he formed a team comprising Inspector Ishaq Abbasi, Shoaib Ali, Waris Ali Khan and others to foil the smuggling bid.

Following directions, the officials intercepted a truck for checking that led to the recovery of 100 DVD players, 50 cell phones, 20 sets of speakers, 100 motherboard of laptop, 50 LED monitors.

The staff asked the driver and his assistant to show documents regarding legal import of the items but they could not produce the same. Therefore, the recovered items worth Rs 4 million were seized under customs laws, besides arresting two suspects.

In another action, the Quetta Customs impounded three luxury vehicles and fake number plates. The officials intercepted truck in the jurisdiction and recovered three vehicles, and more than 100 illegal number plates.

The officials impounded the vehicles after the person concerned failed to show import documents. The valued of vehicles has been estimated at Rs 7 million. The customs arrested two suspects during the action.
