KARACHI: Quetta Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has accelerated efforts to curb smuggling and in various raids recovered contraband items worth Rs 70 million during this month.
Customs Intelligence sources informed Customs Today that during two successful raids, the department recovered six heavy bikes, watches, memory cards and mobile phones.
Director Customs Intelligence Imtiaz Ahmed Khan received information that a huge quantity of watches and memory cards were being supplied out of Quetta. Consequently, he formed a team under the supervision of deputy collector. The team established check-points at the exit points of the city and started the checking of vehicles. During the checking of the vehicles the officials intercepted a passenger van. While the searching of the passenger’s luggage the team recovered 2000 imported watches, 10,000 imported memory cards and card readers. The team seized the items and arrested a person who was involved in guilty smuggling. During the investigation the accused Salman shah revealed that he purchase these items from Quetta and wanted to sell out of city. Customs officials told that the estimated value of seized items is more than 3 million in market.
In another operation, the Customs Intelligence has seized 6 heavy bikes and spare parts of the bikes. As per the details, Director Customs Intelligence Imtiaz Ahmed Khan received information some smuggled items were brought in a private warehouse which is located in the area of Kharan Road. The Customs Intelligence team raided at said ware house. During the search of the warehouse the team found 6 smuggled heavy bikes and spare parts of the heavy bikes. The team seized the heavy bikes and spare parts and filed case against smugglers. The estimated value of sized heavy bikes is 500000.
