Quetta Customs recovers 800 imported watches, 50 cameras during crackdowns

KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta has sped up its efforts to curb smuggling in the region. The Director Customs Intelligence divided teams in two parts. One team is called team A and the other one as team B.

Sources told Customs Today that during a recently crackdown, the customs authorities recovered a huge quantity of cameras, imported watches and Iranian diesel. Sources said that Director Customs Intelligence Imtiaz Ahmad Khan got information that a huge quantity of imported watches and handy cameras would be smuggled outside the Quetta region. The teams started checking of vehicles at main entry and exit points of the city.

During the checking of the vehicles, the team intercepted a passenger bus and recovered 800 imported watches and more than 50 cameras. Customs team seized all the goods and registered a case of smuggling against accused person. The accused personwho was later identified as Qayyum said during interrogations that he wants to sale all the goods in the local market. Sources said that market value of seized goods is Rs1.5 million.

Customs authorities during another crackdown recovered huge quantity of non duty paid blak tea and fifty drums full of Iranian diesel. Customs team raided a godown and recovered the smuggled goods. The team arrested the chowkidar of the godown for interrogation purpose. He revealed to investigators that all the goods were stored here two to three days ago for transporation to other cities. The market value of seized goods is Rs 3million.

Customs authorities after registering a case of smuggling started further investigations. It is necessary to mentionhere that customs Quetta authorities thwarted many attempts of smuggling in recent past and recovered huge quantity of smuggled goods, narcotics, and vehicles during these crackdowns. The customs team are enhanced their surveilliance in the area.
