Quetta Customs recovers Indian betel nuts worth Rs21m

QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized huge quantity of Indian origin betel nuts worth Rs21 million.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Preventive Raza Baloch received credible information about the smuggling of Indian origin non-duty paid betel nuts. He immediately constituted a team to thwart this attempt. The ASO team established check post Dera Murad Jamali. The ASO team intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration no: TKF-399 which was loaded with local scrap coming from Sibi side destined for Lahore.

Sources informed that on detailed checking of seized truck, the staff found 17,006 kilograms of smuggled Indian origin crushed betel nuts worth Rs17 million while seized 365 kilograms of foreign origin Tianjin golden bridge welding rod worth Rs13 million whereas seized 680 kgs of local scrap worth Rs1 million as well seized Hino truck model 1987 worth Rs4 million.

The sources told that the case has been registered against the driver and conductor of the offending vehicle while case has been forwarded to Investigation and Prosecution I&P department for further investigation.
