QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization squad raided on two trains Jaffar Express and Akbar Express and recovered huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled betel nuts and tyres worth Rs4 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Ashraf Ali received credible information about smuggling attempts. He immediately constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Additional Collector Zubair Shah which also included Maqbool Baloch, Superintendents Maqsood Durrani and Aslam Khan, Inspector Salahuddin Khoso and Muhammad Asghar.
When Jaffar Express 39 DN arrived at Much Railway station, the special team of customs raided on the said train and recovered 16 used foreign orign tyres of different sizes and brands for LTV and 12-bags of betel nuts of 100 kilograms each which were booked vide way bill nos: 328354 and 328355 from a compartment in the presence of railway staff and railway police.
Similarly, on arrival of second train Akbar Express 23 DN at Much Railway Station, the special team of Customs raided on this train and recovered 10 bags of betel nuts of 100 kilograms each and 20 bags of betel nuts from two compartments in the presence of railway police which were booked vide way bill no: 328373, 525348,525351, 525352 and 525353.
He said that seized smuggled goods from both trains were valued at Rs.4 million. Sources said that still no details about owners of the above-mentioned recovered betel nuts and used tyres were provided by the railways authorities nor any passenger claimed its ownership of provided lawful evidence in this regards. Therefore the custom staff took the possession of entire goods and seized the same whereas the case has been registered against un-known persons.
