Quetta Customs seizes Indian gutka worth Rs30m

QUETTA: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Quetta has seized over Rs30 million worth of India origin gutka, betel nuts, niswar, cigarettes, diesel, zinc ingots and non-custom paid (NCP) vehicles.

The vehicles carrying smuggled goods were also taken into custody at Kolpur, Qilla Saifullah, Lakpass and Mani Kha, Customs check posts.

Zinc ingots weighing 14,400kg was handed over to the customs by the Levies of Qilla Saifullah. The market value of zinc ingots is said to be around Rs8 million. Customs officials also seized 13,000 litres of smuggled Iranian diesel along with oil tankers at Lakpass check post.

The NCP vehicles were also recovered by MCC Quetta officials from certain parts of Quetta. The crackdown against diesel and NCP vehicles was initiated on the directives of the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO). Gutka, betel nuts and filter Khaini Niswar were recovered from a Hino Truck by Kolpur check post officials, while a huge quantity of foreign cigarettes were also recovered at Mani Kha check post.

Quetta Collector Ashraf Ali said that anti-smuggling drive has been launched in different parts of Balochistan to put an end to this menace.
