KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate, Quetta, confiscated smuggled items worth Rs 200 million during various anti-smuggling raids until August 19 of the current fiscal year 2016-17.
The Quetta Customs seized watches, digital cameras, laptops, fertilisers, tea, Iranian diesel, petrol, air conditioners, heavy generators and other items during the said period.
During recent raids, the department captured Iranian diesel and LED TVs besides arresting six suspects.
As per details, Deputy Collector Jahanzaib Abbasi received information regarding the smuggling of LED TVs on which he formed a team comprising Inspector Shoaib Ali, Mudassir Iqba and others to foil the smuggling bid.
Following directions, the officials intercepted a container for checking that led to the recovery of 70 LED Tvs and more than 50 pieces of dish antenna receivers.
The staff asked the driver and his assistants to show documents regarding legal import of the items but they could not produce the same. Therefore, the recovered items worth Rs 8 million were seized under customs laws, besides arresting four accused person.
In another action, the Quetta Customs confiscated 48,000 litres of Iranian diesel. The officials including Customs Preventive’s Aslam Khan Ghouri, Sardar Asif and Mujtabad intercepted an oil tanker in the jurisdiction and recovered Iranian diesel worth Rs 2.8 million.
The officials confiscated the diesel as it was brought into country illegally and also arrested two accused persons during the raid.
