Quetta I&I foils bid to smuggle goods worth Rs5.22m on Monday

QUETTA: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation foiled a bid to smuggle non duty paid cosmetics, electronic goods worth Rs5.22 million during special checking on Monday.

Sources told Customs Today that Director I&I Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle non custom paid cosmetic items include lipsticks, dryer machines, shampoos, different kinds of facial mask other things out of Quetta.

He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Inspector Touheed Jamal and others. The team enhanced the surveillance on Shaeed Zulfiqar check post and started searching of vehicles.

During the search operation, the team intercepted a passenger van bearing registration no: MGD-8273 which was going outside of Quetta.

During the checking, the customs team recovered 8,000 pieces of branded lipsticks, 250 pieces of dryer machines, 8000 bottles of shampoos and 5000 different kinds of eyeliner , 2000 piece of statners  and other items worth Rs5.22 million.

The customs team seized all items included van which was being used in smuggling, and arrested two smugglers. Sources said that Director Muhammad Akram Chaudhary launched crackdown against smuggling.
