Quetta I&I foils bid to smuggle Indian non-duty paid goods worth Rs8.25m

QUETTA: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation on Thursday has foiled a bid to smuggle Indian artificial jewelry, Indian Gutkha and international non duty paid cigarettes worth Rs 8.25 million during checking.

Sources told Customs Today that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle Indian origin goods from Quetta.

He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Inspector Wajahat Ali Khan of Preventive department and others. The team enhanced the surveillance on Quetta Highway near Wam Road and started searching vehicles.

During the search operation, the team intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration no: MBD-0926 which was heading towards Karachi.

During the checking, the customs team recovered 80 sets of artificial Indian jewelry, 700 packets of Indian Gutkha and 25 corton of International non duty paid cigarettes worth Rs 8.25 million. The customs team seized all smuggle items and arrested a smugglers. Further investigations are still in process till the filing of this report.
