Quetta I&I seizes smuggled goods worth Rs39m in two operations

QUETTA: Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) has seized smuggled goods worth Rs39 million in two successful raids on Friday, December 16, 2023. The market value of seized goods and vehicles is over Rs39.

Sources told Customs Today that on the directives of Director Customs I&I Nadeem Memon, Deputy Director Sohail Ahmed constituted ASO squad. The first raid was carried out at a godown near Sariab Road, where the officials seized 285 bags of China salt, 16 engines without gear head, 60 bags of urea, 105 bags of betel nuts, and 570 bags of sugar. The total value of the seized goods was estimated at Rs23.4 million.

The second raid was conducted at a warehouse near Kuchlak Road, where the officials recovered 410 bags of sugar, 10 mixed shock absorbers, 130 bags of brown sugar, 130 bags of cat food, 35 cartons of pine cigarettes, 5 cartons of Esse cigarettes, and 298 cans of petrol. The total value of the seized goods was estimated at 16.2 million rupees.

The Customs I&I Quetta said that the smuggled and non-duty paid items and vehicles were brought into the country through illegal routes and were intended to be sold in the local markets. The officials said that further proceedings in the cases have been initiated in accordance with the law and that the department is committed to curb the menace of smuggling.
