Quetta I&I seizes smuggled goods worth Rs80m  on Quetta-Zhob Road

QUETTA: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has foiled a bid to smuggle goods in the garb of fresh onions and arrested four persons.

Sources said that Information was received through Director Intelligence & Investigation Muhammad Ismail that smuggled goods would be transported from Quetta to Punjab in trucks under the garb of onions (low quality).

Accordingly, Deputy Director Raza Naqvi constituted a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Hamid Habib and others to thwart any attempt of smuggling.

Subsequently, the suspected vehicles were intercepted on Quetta-Zhob road. Cursory checking of the vehicles found loaded with parcels of fresh onion. Thorough search of the intercepted trucks were conducted, which led to recovery of the contraband / smuggled goods including foreign origin cigarettes, sheesha flavor, tobacco, betel nut and cloth. The value of the seized goods along with vehicles comes to Rs80 million.

An official said the recovered foreign origin smuggled goods were being transported for further distribution inside the country.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation team registered a case against the owners of the goods and started investigation.
