Quetta Preventive recovers betel nuts worth Rs30m hidden in sacks of onion

QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs Appraisement anti-smuggling squad seized 15000 kilogram of betel nuts worth Rs30 million which was hidden in sacks of onion.

Collector Irfan Javed told Customs Today that betel nut mafia is using various tactics for smuggling of betel nuts, adding that a secret information was received that huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts will be smuggled through Lakpass customs check post.

The Collector flourished plan for interception of smuggling goods, he ordered to the Additional Collector Yasir Kulhore, Deputy Collector Akbar Jan who made a squad comprises Superintendent Aslam Khan, Ahmad Nawaz Zehri onspector and other staff of class V who made tight vigilance on all check post of MCC Quetta.

The squad of Lakpass check post stopped a Hino truck loaded with onion and which was going to Karachi from Quetta, the Customs staff made thoroughly checking of the Hino truck, the squad found 15000 kilogram of betel nuts those were hidden under the 1000 kilogram of onion, the sacks of betel nuts were mixed with onion parcels the Collector informed.

The Customs staff seized the betel nuts and bring the vehicle to the Customs House and file the case against the smugglers, it is worth mentioning here that seized betel nuts were containing 200 sacks while onion was containing with 150 sacks both were mixed tactfully.

The Collector told that smugglers are using different unique ways for smuggling of betel nuts, he also told that the Chief Collector Baluchistan have strictly ordered to make swear crackdowns against smugglers of bête nuts who us different ways for smuggling banned items, he added that during last three days MCC Quetta had made two big seizures of betel nuts.
