Qurban for using customs data for prevention of smuggling & money laundering

PESHAWAR: Collector Customs Qurban Ali Khan has stressed the need for using the customs data for prevention of smuggling and money laundering.

He said this while speaking to a meeting at the Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar on Tuesday.

He said that a very small part of customs data has been utilized to generate statistics while a large part of which goes untouched. The use of big data might help to remove the losses being faced by importers and exporters.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Collector and Assistant Collectors along with the PRO to Collector and staff of the Customs House Peshawar and AFU FBR Peshawar.

The collector was informed about the steps being taken by the Air flight Unit at the Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar to facilitate the passengers and prevent smuggling which resulted in seizure of good number of cases in FY 2016-2017.

The collector was also apprised that imports through BKIA have been increased while AFU FBR Peshawar has generated record revenue of millions during the month of June.

Qurban Ali Khan appreciated the role of Inspector Muhammad Azhar Naeem, Hawaldar Abdul Rashid and Sepoy Ijaz Ahmad for seizure of SUISSE brand’s 27 kg gold at the Bacha Khan International Airport.

The AFU FBR Peshawar has the role to add extra revenue to the collection of the MCC Peshawar through smart seizure of contraband goods and by detection of suspicious chances of smuggling, he added.
