They said that after introduction of online ticket booking for Pakistan Railways, the department has now announced a new facility to make travel much easier on the directive of Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique.

The facility will be available at major railway stations throughout the country and all of the passenger trains, the sources added. In this regard, they said the Railways minister had also established a committee under the chairmanship of Information Technology director general and asked it to design a framework for the free WiFi project shortly.

The sources said that these steps will improve the status of Pakistan Railways and make trains journey more pleasant and safer for the travellers. In 2012, Pakistan Railways had launched WiFi services on board its flagship Business Express Train which run between Lahore and Karachi.

Last year, the national train operator announced that it would be offering WiFi on its newly re-branded ‘Greenline Trains’ covering the 23 hour haul between Karachi and Islamabad.
